The Denver Broncos are League Champions once again after nearly 20 years. Having appeared in the playoffs every year since 2011, the team finally broke through against the Carolina Panthers, and won the 50th Super Bowl.
The national anthem was sung this year by Lady Gaga, and was performed in American Sign Language by Marlee Matlin. Matlin also signed “America the Beautiful”, sung by a U.S. Armed Forces chorus. This was her third Super Bowl.
As in recent years, the Super Bowl and its broadcasts were made available in several different languages. The two we’ll focus on here are Spanish, and American Sign Language. In the US, the game was televised by CBS. CBS and the NFL reached an agreement in December of 2014, and allowed ESPN Deportes to broadcast the game in Spanish. That said, a separate Spanish play-by-play was also available through CBC’s second audio program channel.
This is the third year in a row an official Spanish-language telecast of an NFL championship game has been made available. The commentator team included Alvaro Martin, former NFL kicker and Super Bowl champion Raul Allegre, and sideline reporter John Sutcliffe.
