To make sure you&#8217;re prepared for your next event, here are the basics of what you need to know when renting sound equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b><\/b><b>How does an interpreting sound system work?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the speaker gives their presentation, the interpreter will hear it through a headset that is connected to the venue&#8217;s sound system, and speak into a microphone, communicating the speech in a second language. He or she will work out of a soundproof booth to ensure a quiet environment for the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The interpreter will control the feed through a console and will broadcast it via a radio transmitter. Each audience member will hear the broadcast through a personal receiver and headphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>What components does it require?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will need one each of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>trasmitter and antenna<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>table top or soundproof booth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>headsets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>microphones<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>interpreter control console<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>XLR cables, and possibly other cables, depending on the venue&#8217;s setup<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For each audience member you will need one of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a receiver<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an earpiece or headset<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will also need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>cases to transport the equipment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>batteries and chargers for the receivers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Where should I look for equipment?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sound equipment rentals are available through many agencies. Look for licensed providers of name-brand products. That way, you can test the system to ensure compatibility, as well as plan the layout of the room. Interpreters generally sit in the back of the room, but they will need a clear view of the presenter to catch non-verbal communication cues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><b>Will I need to do anything during the event?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since you&#8217;ve met beforehand, the interpreter and technician should be self-sufficient in conducting the interpreting session.
