Excellence in Language Services for:

Cherry Creek School District

WHAT THEY DO:

The Cherry Creek School District is a highly-rated public school district located in western Arapahoe County, Colorado. Known for its strong academic programs, diverse student body, and commitment to excellence, the district serves over 50,000 students across 69 schools. It is consistently ranked among the top school districts in the state and the nation.

THE CHALLENGE

The Cherry Creek School District (CCSD) faced several social and legal challenges in ensuring equal language access for all students.

Social Challenges:

Cultural Barriers:  Misunderstandings and cultural differences can hinder effective communication between school staff and non-English speaking families.

Parental Involvement: Language barriers can limit parental involvement in their children’s education, making it difficult to address concerns and participate in school activities.

Student Isolation: Language barriers can lead to social isolation and a sense of alienation for non-English speaking students.

Legal Challenges:

Civil Rights Act: CCSD is obligated to comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin. This includes providing meaningful language access to non-English speaking families.

Equal Educational Opportunities Act: This federal law requires school districts to take steps to ensure that English language learners (ELLs) receive equal educational opportunities.

State and Local Regulations: Colorado state law and local district policies may also impose specific requirements for providing language access services.

By addressing these challenges, CCSD can ensure that all students, regardless of language background, have the opportunity to succeed academically and socially.

THE SOLUTION

TE addressed CCSD’s language barrier challenges by providing comprehensive translation and interpretation services. Our team of skilled linguists translated essential documents like school policies, parent-teacher communication materials, and student assessments into multiple languages. Additionally, we deployed on-site and remote interpreters to facilitate real-time communication during parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings, and other critical interactions. By bridging language gaps, TE empowered CCSD to create a more inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students.

THE RESULTS

By utilizing TE’s language services, the Cherry Creek School District (CCSD) has experienced a significant improvement in student outcomes, parent engagement, and overall school climate. Effective communication between teachers, students, and parents has led to increased academic achievement, reduced behavioral issues, and stronger parent-teacher partnerships. Additionally, CCSD’s commitment to language access has enhanced its reputation as an inclusive and welcoming school district, attracting a diverse student population. By investing in language services, CCSD has demonstrated its dedication to providing equal educational opportunities for all students, regardless of their language background.
